May I request a coach, team, practice day, or make a car pool request?
GUSA tries to accommodate all requests that are within the rules of VYSA and in the best interests of the player and our program. GUSA makes no promise or guarantee that requests will be honored. GUSA does not accept practice day requests. Practice days and times are determined by the volunteer coach. Coaches and parents may not assign players to a team and coaches may not promise open roster spots to specific players.
What does U-4, U-6 etc stand for and what age team will my child be placed on?
The U is short for under. The age of a child on August 1 determines which team he/she would be placed on. For example, for teams that are forming for the Fall of 2008, for a player to play on a U-6 team the player’s birthdate must be on or after August 1, 2002. The birthday policy is still in effect for the Spring season regardless if the child has a birthday between the Fall and Spring season. The only age group that does not fit this description is the U-4 age group. Players in the U-4 (PeeWee) age group are players who have turned 4 by the August 1st timeframe.
How do I know what team I have been placed on? When will I hear from my coach?
Coaches are responsible for contacting team players. If you have not heard from your coach two weeks prior to opening day, please email president@gusasoccer.com. If we are unable to place your child on a team we will contact you prior to this time to inform you of your status on a waiting list or if there are not enough players to form a team for your child’s age.
When and where are games played?
Typically, games are scheduled for Saturdays. Currently, U4 and U5 teams play games at the Goochland Family YMCA fields. U6 and U8 teams play games at Hidden Rock Park. U10 - U16 participate in the Cross Association league and play home games at either HRP or the fields at the Old Middle School. Away games are played at fields throughout the metro Richmond area. U10 Boys teams currently participate in the Richmond Kickers’ Rec league and play all games at either Providence Middle School or a field determined by the Richmond Kickers.
When will I practice?
Weekly practice times and locations are arranged by the coach of your team. U-4 to U-8 teams generally practice once a week. U-10 and older teams generally practice twice a week.
Will my child play in every game?
Recreational soccer is intended to allow players the opportunity to learn and enjoy the game. GUSA requires that players participate in at least 50% of each game, unless a player’s behavior dictates disciplinary action by the coach.
How do I report a problem at my game?
Reports may be submitted to the GUSA Club President at president@gusasoccer.com. GUSA will investigate each issue and take appropriate action, if necessary.
How will I know if Games are cancelled?
Cancellations for games played on GUSA home fields are determined by Goochland Parks & Rec. Typically, game cancellations are posted on our web site, www.gusasoccer.com by 8am. You may also call 804 556 2900 for updated field information. Away games for Upper Division teams (U10 - U16) are determined by the home field organization. For updates, players should contact their coach.
