May I request a coach, team, practice day, or make a car pool request?
GUSA’s rostering policy is located online. However, we will try to accommodate all requests as long as they are within the rules of VYSA. In the event that there enough players within a specific age group to form more than one team, all teams will be formed so that they have players of substantially equal experience, age and ability. You may make requests as long as they are within the rules of VYSA, but there is no promise or guarantee that we can honor your requests. The GUSA Board is responsible for team formation and will take your requests into consideration. Coaches and parents may not assign players to a team and coaches may not promise open roster spots to specific players.
What does U-4, U-6 etc stand for and what age team will my child be placed on?
The U is short for under. The age of a child on August 1 determines which team he/she would be placed on. For example, for teams that are forming for the Fall of 2008, for a player to play on a U-6 team the player’s birthdate must be on or after August 1, 2002. The birthday policy is still in effect for the Spring season regardless if the child has a birthday between the Fall and Spring season. The only age group that does not fit this description is the U-4 age group. Players in the U-4 (PeeWee) age group are players who have turned 4 by the August 1st timeframe.
How do I know what team I have been placed on? When will I hear from my coach?
Coaches will be given their team rosters in late August and will begin contacting the players. If we are unable to place your child on a team we will contact you prior to this time to inform you of your status on a waiting list or if there are not enough players to form a team for your child’s age. If you do not hear from a coach by September 5, please contact us at 556-2900 or info@gusasoccer.com.
When and where are games played?
Games are scheduled for Saturdays. Teams U-8 and younger play at the Fields of the Goochland Campus of J. Sargeant Reynolds. Teams U-10 and older play games in Goochland and in Chesterfield. Home games for the U-10s will be at HiddenRockPark and for all older age groups at GoochlandMiddle School.
When will I practice?
Weekly practice times and locations are arranged by the coach of your team. U-4 to U-8 teams generally practice once a week. U-10 and older teams generally practice twice a week. The teams practice on the fields where they play their home games.
Will my child play in every game?
Recreational soccer is intended to allow players the opportunity to learn and enjoy the game. GUSA requires that every player present at a game must have substantially equal playing time. Parents with concerns regarding playing time are encouraged to first, speak with their coach and then if needed contact GUSA directly if the issue persists.
How do I report a problem at my game?
Reports may be submitted to GUSA in writing to the P.O. Box 641Goochland, VA , 23063 online at www.gusasoccer.com or to our hotline 556-2900. GUSA will investigate and take appropriate action.
How will I know if Games are cancelled?
In the event of a league-wide cancellation due to inclement weather, GUSA will make a decision to cancel all games by 7:30 am, when possible. If games are cancelled, notification will be on the website, www.gusasoccer.com and on the GUSA voice mail at 556-2900. Once games are cancelled in the morning the decision will not be reversed for games later in the day. Upper Division games, U 10 and older with scheduled games playing on fields outside of Goochland should check with their coaches regarding game cancellation.
