What is Recreational soccer?

The GUSA youth soccer program is open to all children ages 4 to 15.  The program is designed to provide a safe, family friendly environment for children to learn about the beautiful game of soccer and have fun at the same time.  Recreation soccer is not about winning!  It is about the players acquiring positive life skills and making friends and having fun!  The emphasis is on participation, fun, and learning.

When to games and practices begin?

Fall Games will start in September.  Practices will start in late August.  Spring games start in March with practices beginning in March.

Where to we practice and play?

Lower division teams (U6, U8) typically practice once per week and play their games at HiddenRockPark.  Upper division teams (U10, U12, U14, U16) typically practice twice per week. Home games HiddenRockPark or the former Goochland Middle School.  Away games are played at locations throughout the metro Richmond area. Practice locations for all divisions include Byrd Elementary School, Former Goochland Middle School, HRP, or Salem Baptist Church in Manakin-Sabot.  Parents can request that their player be rostered to a team that practices at the location most convenient for them.  Players will be rostered to the preferred practice location if there is a volunteer coach and enough available players to form a team at the requested practice location.  If not, the player will be rostered to a team at the nearest available practice location.

NOTE: *The U10 Coed (boys) teams participate in the Richmond Kickers Rec League.  League games are played at Providence Middle School or other assigned Kickers’ fields.

What is the GUSA rostering policy?

GUSA players are rostered to teams at their selected practice locations, if a team is available.  If not, the player will be rostered to a team at the next nearest practice location.  For multiple teams within the same division at the same practice location, the GUSA Registrar determines rosters at random.  GUSA makes no promises or commitments to the athletic, soccer, or coaching ability of its rostered teams.

Don’t delay! Register early and give your child the opportunity to play the most popular sport in the world.

·          Players provide soccer cleats, shin guards, and appropriate sized soccer ball for practices.
