Goochland County Board Approves Purchase of Land for Soccer Complex
Paves the Way for Much Needed Soccer Facilities in Goochland County

GOOCHLAND COUNTY:   Local soccer enthusiasts have something to cheer about.  Last week, Goochland County Supervisors approved the purchase of close to 6 acres of land behnd the Town and County Shops in Goochland Courthouse.  This purchase augments 10 acres of land already owned by the county on the area that occupies the space between the High/Middle School complex, the Administrative Buildings/GES, and the Town and County Shops.  With the current 16 acres, the county plans include 4-6 brand new lit bermuda grass fields in addition to restroom facilities, and will serve as home  to Goochland United Soccer Association as well as the teams from both Goochland County Middle School and Goochland County High School.  This will bring the number of fields in the Goochland Courthouse area to 10, making it one of the most comprehensive soccer field complexes in the Greater Richmond Area, allowing the club to grow, and host tournaments, which have proven to be an economic boost to the local economy for other clubs who do the same.

This culminates a long term process that has been in the works with county officials for close to 5 years.  GUSA President, Bob Dewar, and club residents have been very instrumental in highlighting the need for these fields to accomodate the growing population of both the children and adult soccer playing soccer population in Goochland County.  The attached graphic is conceptual in nature, but provides a good idea as to the undertaking and potential field and restroom layout.
